Mary Reich

Mary is a choreographer, performer, teacher and Feldenkrais ® Practitioner. Mary researches the body as the root of creativity and is known for choreography that is innovative and risk taking. She was taught the art of dance at San Diego State University, jumped a hoop for her MFA at UC Irvine where she was exposed to Jerzy Grotowski and Suzanne Lacy, and in the following 12 years has taught and had her work produced in the Southern California area. Among the groups that have produced her work are Sushi Performance and Visual Art, Kansas City Art Institute, Mojalet Dance and Centro Cultural de la Raza. She has taught modern dance and choreography at San Diego State University, University of California at Irvine and the University of Missouri. In the last four years, Lower left has brought her work to Russia, Texas and Mexico; exposed her to the teachings of Nina Martin, Victoria Marks, Deborah Hay and Simone Forti; and revealed the performer in her. This year, Mary had the honor of receiving the "Alumni of the Year" Award from SDSU's Music and Dance Department. She works at the Reese Movement Institute in Cardiff as a Feldenkrais ® Practitioner.
